Cazenovia Children’s House, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization that has provided early care and education programs for Cazenovia area families since 1970. It consists of both preschool programs housed at St Peter’s and St. James churches, an after program at Cazenovia Village Baptist Church, and a full day early childhood education curriculum in conjunction with child care services at it’s main facility on Rt 20 in Trush Park.
Cazenovia Children’s House is one of only eight programs in the Greater Syracuse area to have national accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
The population served by Cazenovia Children’s House represents the demographics of the surrounding area, and includes children with identified special needs. CCH has been recognized as a leader in the CNY area in recognizing children with special educational needs and as a result intervening at an early and therefore beneficial age.
In addition to tuition, Cazenovia Children's House receives some of its funding from tuition assistance programs , and scholarship programs. This scholarship fund, which is supported by local individuals, businesses, churches, and our own in-house fund raising ,assists families with a financial need, but can also assist families by partially offsetting their tuition costs when emergencies arise.
Scholarship needs at Cazenovia Children’s House have dramatically increased over the past two years CCH Cazenovia Children’s House is open to families of all income levels and currently has an enrollment of 140 children and a staff of 40. Programs include full-day care, 2 ½ hour programs for toddlers and preschoolers, after school care and summer camp. The majority of the families whose children are enrolled live or work in the greater Cazenovia area. In addition, the program draws families from Onondaga County and eastern Madison County, including Canastota, Hamilton, Chittenango, Earlville, Vernon, Morrisville, Erieville, and New Woodstock. The majority of children are enrolled in full-time, year round programs.
In cooperation with Cazenovia Central Schools, the Children’s House administers an after-school program for school age children from kindergarten through fifth grade. Students are provided with after-school transportation from the elementary school to CCH, which is a key benefit for working parents.
Children’s House is the only organization in Cazenovia to offer a toddler pre-school program for two year olds. The kindergarten preparedness curriculum offered in the center’s 2-½ hour pre-school classes for three and four year olds provides its students with a successful transition into kindergarten.
Cazenovia Children’s House provides training opportunities to local independent family childcare providers by offering tuition-free attendance at scheduled training sessions offered by the center.
Cazenovia Children’s House offers a special summer camp program, which provides children with opportunities for a wide variety of field trips and activities. Younger children have visited local dairy and pumpkin farms, and had guest visits from CAVAC, a wildlife rehabilitator, firefighters, and storyteller “Mrs. McPuppet”. School-age children have traveled to Stone Quarry Hill Art Park, the beach at Cazenovia Lake, the Utica Children’s Museum, the MOST, Highland Forest, the Erie Canal Museum, and the local library.
Cazenovia Children’s House offers programming to the larger community consistently throughout the year, including conducting an annual Teddy Bear Parade for the local community’s Fourth of July festivities, the March Into Reading celebration, sponsorship of a variety of free community workshops featuring a wide range of parenting and childcare topics, and family crafting workshops and performance artists.
Cazenovia Children’s House has a volunteer Board of Directors that contribute to Cazenovia Children’s House by donating their time at 12 monthly board meetings. Cazenovia Children’s House has received 100% participation from the Board of Directors in past annual appeal campaigns, as well as consistent financial support from the Board at special events and in-house fundraisers.
